Cape Cod ..A Whole Different World

Just a Few of My Insights

Ah, yes, Cape Cod, such a wonderful place to go, so much to see and do. This link Cape Cod Map
will bring you to a map of Cape Cod and if you click on the map, you'll see an arrow pointer which you can point to many places of interest. There are several of my favorite places there.

I use to always keep a fishing pole in the car and every chance I had, I would head off to Onset. I would sit on the wharf and spend hours fishing. The flounders were great. Now, though, they built a boat tour site there and all the parking spaces now have meters. So sad. Another place is Onset Beach, I use to surf fish there, again always catching the flounders. The best time was an hour before the tide changes. Years ago I'd head off to Onset Beach in the middle of the night, bring a sleeping bag, and wait for the sun rise. Such a beautiful site. The calmness, sitting there with no one else on the beach, hearing the sounds of the fishing boats heading out. So peaceful.

Another favorite fishing spot is in Bourne, off Bell Road, at the Tressel. A nice little inlet where, if you time it right, hundreds of Strippers would show up, it is quite a sound to hear them all flapping in the water. But try and catch one, it's really tough.

It's also nice to bring a blanket and lunch, and lay out at the Cape Cod Canal. The current there is something else, and watching the many boats go up and down is fascinating.

When the Tall Ships came to Boston, there were five of them that tackled the canal. Such a beautiful site seeing them with their full sails and so close. There's also a Herring Run there, and in April/May, thousands of these small fishes would make their run through the narrow stretch.

My favorite spot of all, is Race Point in Providencetown, which is located at the very end of the Cape. The beach is so huge, and the light house does have quite a history. I did come across a link which does show a picture of it. To see the sand dunes and nothing but ocean is a very serene way to do a lot of peaceful thinking. There's also an old wooden walk way which will take you to an encasement, showing a map of the many sunken ships in the area, a little further down, there's another encasement that shows pictures of all the different fish and whales in the area.

Another fun time, was driving a jeep through the sand dunes. You can't imagine the excitement unless you've done it. Sadly though, every year the stretch gets shorter and shorter, as they are trying to preserve the natural beauty of these well known sand dunes.

I think I could do a whole web site on Cape Cod, having the opportunity over many years to drive through out each and every town, exploring all the side roads and hidden beauty. There is so much there. If you ever have the opportunity to come to Massachusetts, do make plans to spend time there. I haven't even began to tell you about Marthas Vineyard or Chappaquidick Island or Edgartown.
